Wednesday 5 July Refugee accommodation in Gouvernement adjacent buildings extended until next year The crisis emergency shelter for asylum seekers in the LABgebouw annex near the Gouvernement buildings will be extended until 8 January next year.
Wednesday 5 July Square on Green Loper is named Wittevrouwenplein The little square between Frankenstraat and the Groene Loper has been named the Wittevrouwenplein. This was decided by the stadsbestuur (city board).
Tuesday 4 July Stricter rules for nachtwinkels off the table The plan to ban nachtwinkels (night shops) from selling alcohol after 22:00 is off the table. The shops would lose too much turnover as a result and suffer from competition from delivery services that do deliver alcohol after 22:00.
Monday 3 July Adieu Annemarie There was a big party at the Tapijnterrein Friday evening. During a celebratory event set up by the Gemeente, people could bid farewell to Burgemeester Annemarie Penn-te Strake. Also present were fellow council members who had worked with Penn-te Strake over the years.

Friday 30 June Cycling along Grote Staat now allowed until 11:00 Cyclists have recently been allowed to cycle through the pedestrian area in the city centre until 11:00. Previously, you were fined if you rode your bike while cycling between 09:00-18:00, during shop opening hours, through, for example, the Grote Staat.
Thursday 29 June Knife ban in Amsterdam – also an idea for Maastricht? Gemeente Amsterdam: "The number of stabbing incidents, especially among young people, remains a major concern in Amsterdam. Many schools are also concerned and have asked the gemeente (municipality) for action. In consultation with the driehoek* , Burgemeester (mayor) Halsema has therefore decided to ban knives throughout the city from 1 July 2023. The ban comes on top of measures already in place to combat gun possession and violence."
