Two university professors breach boundaries of acceptable behaviour

Two professors in rapid succession at Maastricht University have had to step down from their posts due to unacceptable behaviour. On 9 May, it was announced that a professor at the Health, Medicine and Life Sciences Faculty has had non-active status since autumn 2022.

The other case concerns a doctor in the MUMC+ neonatology department where sick or premature babies are cared for. The doctor was also an endowed professor at the University. After his departure, the doctor applied to the courts in December 2022 through which action the case has now been made public.

The University has announced its intention to take several measures resulting from these cases. A hotline has been set up where unacceptable behaviour can be reported and, in the future, training given and workshops for those in leadership functions, confidential advisors and students to prevent such occurrences.
