Street parking price increase aims to improve quality of life in the city
From next year, it will become more expensive to park along the streets in Maastricht. Rates will rise by 15 per cent to €3.50 an hour in the city centre, €1.80 in the outer areas and to €7.80 for a day pass (dagkaart).
Parking permits (parkeervergunningen) are also covered by the increase. The price increase is due to Maastricht rates lagging behind national rates, and the fact that according to an agreement with national parking garage provider Q-Park, street rates must be higher than those in Q-Park garages and lots.
It also emerged that parking revenues and those from parking fines were less than budgeted. The price increase aims to ensure that those wanting to park their car long-term are encouraged to use the garages and car parks, therefore leaving more space on the street for people who park for a few hours and improving the quality of life in the city.
