Stadsbestuur appeals against permit for biomass power plant
The Gemeente (Municipality) is going to the Raad van State (Council of State) in Belgium in the hope of preventing the arrival of a biomass plant in Lixhe, located in Visé, which is 12 km to the south of Maastricht. The company Bee Green Wallonia is going to burn wood there.
Various environmentalists say this will release pollutants that will also be blown towards Maastricht.
Appeal
The company has now obtained a permit for the power plant. Belgian ministers already appealed against this, but they were unsuccessful. Before 24 August, Maastricht must report to the Belgian Read van State with the objection.
