RUD research results: '100 decibels at events is possible'
Event organisers in Maastricht can still produce the volume of sound they want, even with the introduction of a decibel limit. This is the opinion of wethouder John Aarts following research by the Regionale Uitvoeringsdienst Zuid-Limburg – RUD (Regional regional Implementing Agency).
With the implementation of the evenementenbeleid (event policy), Gemeente Maastricht plans to include a maximum of 80 decibels, measured at the nearest façade. There has been considerable response to this policy from event organisers. They believe this would lead to a decrease in the experience of the event and expressed in. a letter to the Gemeente that they were thinking about removing their events from Maastricht.
However, with its model calculations, RUD illustrates that when introducing 80 decibels at the first façade, 100 decibels can still be produced at the event site itself. This applies to the Vrijthof and De Griend locations. At the Geusselt, 100 decibels on the site is possible even if the maximum at the first facade is set at 75 decibels.
