Refugees asked to provide domestic help: language barrier too big of an obstacle

Statushouders (refugees with residence permits) and Ukrainian refugees have been asked if they would like to work as domestic help providers. The stadsbestuur (city council) writes this after questions from GroenLinks on the subject. There is a waiting list of some 530 people who are entitled to domestic assistance but do not get it due to staff shortages.

Language
Despite the high need, it seems unlikely that refugees will be employed in this sector. Not speaking Dutch is too big an obstacle here. In the sectors where communication is of lesser importance it is possible for refugees to be put to work. Personnel recruiters from Podium24 are visiting the various refugee accommodation locations and discuss the possibilities there through interpreters.
