PVV wants ban on religious symbols also for BOAs

The PVV wants the gemeente (municipality) to ban buitengewoon opsporingsambtenaren – BOA's (special investigating officers) from wearing clothing that is symbolic of a particular religion. For example, headscarves.

National policy
The local political party wants Maastricht to fall in line with national policy where police officers who come into contact with the public are banned from wearing symbolic clothing during their work. However, the decision on BOAs lies with municipalities.

Neutrality
According to the chair of the PVV chapter in our city, Rene Betsch, a neutral uniform provides extra safety because a visible religious symbol can incite unwanted behaviour. The PVV is supported by from Partij Veilig Maastricht in its proposal.
