Plaques on 20 Maastricht benches for suicide prevention

Plaques have been placed on 20 benches across Maastricht to draw attention to suicide prevention.

How is it really going?
"Ask someone how that person is really doing," wethouder Bastiaens urged guests at the presentation of the plaques. Exactly that is the purpose of the benches. To make the subject of suicide discussable through a frank conversation.

Every day, an average of 5 people die by suicide, research shows that half of the people walking around with suicidal thoughts have not talked to anyone about it, according to the Gemeente.

The campaign is in collaboration with 113, a national phone number that people with suicidal thoughts can call to talk.
