Old Sint Maartenspoort marked out in streetscape
The gemeente (municipality) has marked the spot where Sint Maartenspoort used to be in Wyck's old stadsmuur (city wall).
Natural stone
Applying natural stone in the pavement shows where this gateway to the city used to be. At the end of the 19th century, the city wall and thus the gate were demolished.
Finds
Last November, during excavation work in the street now called Sint Maartenspoort, the remains of the old gate were accidentally found. That spot is now marked to keep the memory of a piece of Maastricht history alive.
