No majority for GroenLinks' cultuurpas

The cultuurpas, which GroenLinks, Partij voor de Dieren and Socialistische Partij (SP) wanted to see come to fruition, will not become a reality after all. The council criticised the plan. In the end, therefore, the proposal did not get a majority.

The idea was to use this pass to allow Maastricht people who are not well-off to visit a museum, theatre performance, concert or cinema.

Wethouder Alex Meij explained that, in his opinion, many initiatives already exist that offer this. In this, he mentions Bonnefanten First Fridays and initiatives by Theater aan het Vrijthof, for example.

Stigmatising
The wethouder goes on to say that Maastricht has had a similar pass in the past: the Maastricht Pas. According to him, the pass was then abolished because people experienced the pass as stigmatising. The pass was also insufficiently used.

Mapping
Yet the approach is not completely off the table. Indeed, the wethouder promised to map out what initiatives are currently available in Maastricht for this target group.
