Nearly 200 project proposals submitted to Burgerbegroting

A total of 199 project proposals were submitted for the Burgerbegroting (Citizen's Budget). In this, Maastricht citizens and residents decide what happens with £750,000 of community money.

Until 18 July, people with ideas could submit them for the second year of the programme.

Distribution
Most proposals, 61 in total, were made in the category 'activiteiten voor verbinden en ontmoeten in de buurt' (activities for connecting and meeting in the neighbourhood). For 'greening parks and streets', 31 ideas were submitted and 22 project proposals focused on 'sport-en speelplekken in de buurt' (sports and play areas in the neighbourhood). The remaining ideas were divided among the other 7 categories. The exact distribution of the projects can be found on the Burgerbegroting website (in Dutch).

Follow-up
In the coming period, the proposals will be examined one by one and possibly adapted in consultation with the initiators. The stadsbestuur (city board) will then decide which projects meet the conditions and will definitely forward to the next and final stage in the selection process. This will take place in December, where residents will decide how much money will go to which projects.
