Maastrichtenaar Frans Timmermans wants to become the lijsttrekker (party leader) of coalition party PvdA and GroenLinks. This is what several national media reported today.

The current government, a 4-way coalition between VVD, ChristienUnie, D66 and CDA collapsed on 7 July citing "unbridgeable" differences of opinion on the topic of migration and asylum seekers.

In the upcoming Tweede Kamerverkiezingen elections in November, both parties will have a single electoral list. Timmermans, himself a member of PvdA, will step down as vice president of the European Commission.
