Maastricht to have geboortebossen by the end of 2023
The Gemeente (Municipality) plans to place geboortebossen (birth forests) in the city. For every new birth in the city, a tree will be added to such a forest.
The idea
The idea then is that the young tree grows with the child. Through an information board at the forest, a QR code can be used to find out for which children the trees in this forest are placed. Parents or carers of the newborns may plants the trees into the ground during special planting days.
End of 2023
For now, the Municipality wants to start with birth forests in two districts of the city. This will start at the end of 2023, wethouder Hubert Mackus announced.
