Judge quashes permit for construction of 123 flats in Calvarieklooster
A judge in Roermond has quashed the permit granted for 123 small flats in the former Calvarieklooster. This vindicated 49 local residents who had brought the case to court.
The judge noted that in granting the permit, the municipality's own rules on minimum surface areas were not observed. Most of the dwellings do not meet the minimum size of 35 square metres, which applies in the centre for dwellings with rents between €443 and €763.
The local residents filed the case because they fear that the liveability of their neighbourhood will suffer with so many new residents added. The municipality does not yet want to comment on the decision, but will first study the ruling. An appeal is still possible.
