Frans Timmermans canvassing students at Universiteit Maastricht

Tomorrow, the Netherlands will choose who will have a seat in the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives) in the coming years. There is little doubt that Maastrichtenaar Frans Timmermans may secure enough votes to do so. The GroenLinks/PvdA party leader even hopes to become the country's Premier (prime minister). This morning, Timmermans went to speak with students at Universiteit Maastricht, hoping to secure some extra votes before tomorrow.

Only those who hold citizenship of the Netherlands are eligible to vote in national elections. However at News in English we felt it was important to share a glimpse of the man who may play a significant role in running the country for the next few years.

The chances of Timmermans actually becoming prime minister are considerable. If the polls are to be believed, his party, Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA) is in the race for victory with Volkspartij voor Vrijheid en Democratie (VVD), Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV) and Nieuw Sociaal Contract (NSC).
