Drowning suspect remand extended
The remand of the 58-year-old man suspected of involvement in the drowning of a 23-year-old man 2 weeks ago has been extended by 90 days. The prosecution suspects the man of manslaughter or assault resulting in death.
The incident took place at the Maaspromenade in Maastricht's city centre.
Offering help
The brandweer (fire brigade) pulled the young man out of the water, but it was already too late. That assistance is also still under investigation. According to the suspect's lawyer, police officers and buitengewoon opsporingsambtenaren (boa, local authority officers) only watched the young man who was in the water fighting for his life, without intervening. The police and Gemeente (Municipality) announced last week that they would not comment on the case.
